In the previous era, when Autoclave was not invented, open flaming or chemical washing methods were used to sterilize equipment for surgery and microbiology research. These methods were not efficient as they could not inactivate fungi, bacteria, spores, viruses, and other microorganisms on surgical instruments such as scalpels, forceps, scissors, and other metal items.

After the invention of the Autoclave, it was quickly adopted by hospitals, universities, and sterile manufacturing facilities due to proper and effectual functioning.

In this article, laboratory equipment suppliers in India will focus on the autoclave sterilization and walk you through the different autoclave types and their uses/ functions.

What is an Autoclave?

An autoclave is a piece of equipment or a type of machine that is used to sterilize (make germ free) objects such as surgical equipment, laboratory instruments, pharmaceutical items, and other materials by using high-pressure steam. This process is called a physical method of sterilization. Solids, liquids, hollows, and instruments of various shapes and sizes can be sterilized by vertical autoclaves. A wide range of fields, such as hospitals, research facilities, and even tattoo parlors use this equipment.

Types of Autoclave

The use of autoclaves can be applied to various industries that need equipment sterilization. The key purpose of autoclaves remains an equivalent i.e. sterilization; however different kinds and sizes of autoclaves are demanded by different industries. We have available different types of Autoclave:

KPA-301 & 303 AUTOCLAVE (Portable)

Portable autoclave sterilizers are designed for general purpose sterilization jobs at dental clinics, nursing homes, and hospitals, etc. It is manufactured of aluminum or stainless steel and equipped with safety devices that protect the operator and samples from over-pressure, over current, and other mishandling conditions.

KPA-311 (B) RECTANGULAR HIGH PRESSURE AUTOCLAVE

This high-pressure autoclave is rectangular. This sterilizer has a double-walled (inner chamber & Jacket) type design, which allows preheating of the chamber by jacket steam.

KPA-311 (A) HORIZONTAL HIGH PRESSURE AUTOCLAVE TRIPLE WALL

A horizontal autoclave comprises a sterilization chamber, sensors, boiler, piping, fitting, and control panel. These parts and components are jointed and fitted on a stand. It is made of stainless steel to ensure corrosion resistance surface. Its tipple walled construction assures an excellent level of safety.

KPA-311 (B) RECTANGULAR HIGH PRESSURE AUTOCLAVE

Cylindrical (Double Walled) Inner and outer chamber made of thick SS fitted with an automatic pressure control switch, low water cutoff device, digital temperature controller cum indicator with inbuilt timer vacuum breaker.

KPA-301 & 303 AUTOCLAVE (Portable)

The vertical Autoclave manufactured by vertical autoclave manufacturers in India is built with a Double Wall in which a boiler & a steam jacket are made of thick stainless steel. And the gap is filled with high-grade glass wool to bring the temperature to a low level. Its outer chamber is also made out of Stainless Steel.

KPA-306 VERTICAL HIGH PRESSURE AUTOCLAVE TRIPLE WALL

This autoclave is high pressure, Triple wall, double chamber Autoclave with a lid, ring, inner chamber, middle chamber, and outer wall made of stainless steel. Its middle chamber works as a steam stock jacket. The instrument is absolutely leak proof.

Industrial Applications of Multi-Functional Autoclave

To achieve full sterilization, the utilization of autoclaves is important. Basic sterilization methods like boiling water, alcohol, or chemical solutions aren’t enough to stay infections away.

Autoclaves are important devices to ensure the sterilization of materials containing water as they cannot be sterilized by dry heat sterilization. Besides, autoclaves are used for various other purposes.

  • They are specifically used to decontaminate biological waste and sterilize media, and instruments.
  • In medical labs, autoclaves are used to sterilize medical equipment, glassware, surgical equipment, and medical wastes.
  • Regulated medical waste which may contain bacteria, viruses, and other biological materials is to be inactivated by autoclaving before disposal.
  • Similarly, autoclaves are used for the sterilization of culture media, plastic tubes, and pipette tips.

No doubt autoclaves are quite simple to use, still, there are certain rules of precautions to be followed while operating an autoclave.
